Grime's Graves - Prehistoric Flint Mine

Indoor Welcome Last Verified:

Grime's Graves is a 4,000-year-old prehistoric flint mine managed by English Heritage, set in 96 acres of heathland and forest near Thetford. The site includes a visitor centre with an exhibition explaining the history of Neolithic flint mining, along with outdoor interpretation across the landscape. Dogs are welcome on leads throughout the outdoor areas, making this a distinctive heritage day out for patient dogs who don't mind rough terrain and plenty of sniff-worthy archaeology.
The free car park is about 500 metres from the entrance, so factor in a short lead walk before you even reach the ticket office. The landscape itself is atmospheric and unlike most other English Heritage sites—think low mounds, craters and wooded tracks rather than castle ramparts or formal gardens. Tickets are valid all day within opening hours and advance booking online saves a few pounds.
Keep your dog on the lead across the evidenced public outdoor areas and note that barbecues and naked flames aren't allowed. Indoor access to the exhibition isn't explicitly confirmed for dogs, so plan this as an outdoor heritage adventure.

Dog Policy:
