Hen Reedbeds is a 55-hectare Suffolk Wildlife Trust nature reserve near Southwold, offering a proper day out for dog owners who want more than a casual stroll. The reserve features marked trails, bird hides, a boardwalk and wetland habitat to explore, with dogs on a lead welcome throughout the outdoor areas. Access includes a shingle car park on site, though paths vary from the boardwalk to narrow, uneven ground and steps reaching some hides.
The reserve has grazing cattle and ponies, so keeping your dog on a lead is essential for their safety and theirs. It's about 2.5 miles west of Southwold, making it a realistic short drive for a focused nature day out. No booking is needed for individual visits, so you can drop in whenever the weather suits.
This is the kind of place where your dog gets a proper sniff around managed habitat while you might spot something interesting in the bird hides. Groups should contact the trust in advance.
