Highland Folk Museum is a major open-air heritage attraction near Aviemore, spread across an extensive outdoor site where you can explore historic buildings, reconstructed crofts and centuries of Highland life. Dogs are welcome in all outdoor areas on a short lead, making it a superb dog-joinable day out in the Cairngorms. Your dog can walk the site with you but won't be able to come inside any of the buildings, shops, cafe or toilets.

That still leaves plenty to see from the doorways and pathways and the scale of the museum means a good few hours of wandering together. Entry is free, though donations are welcomed and parking charges apply.

The museum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00 between April and August and 10:30 to 16:00 from September to late October. There's an on-site car park with parking meters; note that it locks 45 minutes after closing.
