Inchmahome Priory is a ruined 13th-century monastery set on an island in the Lake of Menteith, reached by a short passenger-boat crossing from Port of Menteith near Stirling. Dogs are welcome in all the outdoor areas of the island, including the priory ruins, grounds and paths, making this a memorable day out for anyone whose plans revolve around four legs and a tail. The boat journey and island setting add a real sense of adventure to the visit.

Paths on the island are rough and uneven, so sturdy paws and a sense of balance help. Advance booking is recommended because seats on the boat are limited and you'll need to be comfortable climbing in and out with your dog.

The priory operates seasonally, typically open April to October daily. Roofed areas on the island are reserved for assistance dogs only, so this is very much an outdoor visit—but the ruins, island atmosphere and lakeside setting make it a distinctive heritage experience well worth the journey from Stirling.
