Jervaulx Abbey

Jervaulx Abbey is a privately maintained Cistercian ruin set in open parkland between Leyburn and Masham and dogs on leads are welcome throughout the grounds and abbey site. The ruins date back to the twelfth century and offer a atmospheric wander among roofless arches, crumbling walls and weathered stonework, all surrounded by grazed meadows.

Access is dawn to dusk daily, with no entry after dark. The visit operates on an honesty-box donation basis and parking is across the road in the abbey car park.

Livestock graze the surrounding land, so close lead control is essential at all times. It's a peaceful spot for a calm dog who's happy on-lead and won't mind the occasional sheep in the distance and the combination of history and open space makes it a solid Richmond-radius day out when you want ruins without the crowds.
