The King Alfred is a proper neighbourhood pub in south-west Winchester where dogs are welcome inside alongside you for food and drinks. Pull up a chair in the dog-friendly dining area, tuck the lead under the table and settle in with the whole group.

The kitchen serves lunch and dinner daily, with extended Sunday hours running straight through the afternoon – useful when your walk runs longer than planned. The pub opens from midday through to 11pm most nights, giving you flexibility for post-walk pints or an early dinner.

It works well as a local base and still makes sense as a visitor stop from Winchester centre. The indoor dog welcome and reliable food service mean you're not splitting the group or eating a sandwich on a bench when the weather turns.
