Kirby Hall

Kirby Hall is a spectacular ruined Elizabethan country house set in formal gardens near Corby, just 11 miles from Stamford. Managed by English Heritage, the site offers a fascinating glimpse of grand Tudor and Stuart architecture, with ornate stonework, elaborately carved doorways and the shell of once-magnificent state rooms open to the sky.

Dogs on leads are welcome to explore the outdoor ruined areas, formal gardens and surrounding grounds, making this a brilliant day out when you want history and a decent wander without splitting up. The ruins give plenty of sniff-worthy corners and the gardens provide seasonal interest without the usual no-dogs disappointment.

Free parking for 30 cars is available about 100 metres from the entrance and disabled visitors can be dropped closer to the gate. The site is open daily, with seasonal hours from late March through to late October and weekend opening through winter, so check current times before you set off.
