Lound Lakes Nature Reserve is a managed Suffolk Wildlife Trust site just north of Lowestoft, offering waymarked trails, a bird hide, picnic area and on-site parking. Dogs are welcome on lead across the reserve and the official leaflet shows a designated off-lead area where they can stretch their legs and burn off energy between the longer on-lead sections.
The car park is open 9am to 5pm daily, closing an hour earlier in winter and paths can be muddy after rain—so wellies and a towel are useful additions to the lead-and-bag kit. The trails wind through mixed habitats popular with birdwatchers and the combination of woodland, water and open space makes this a varied outing for dogs who enjoy proper sniffing time.
It's a practical choice for a few hours out with the dog near Lowestoft, especially if you want a reserve day that includes both on-lead wildlife watching and a safe space to let them run. The picnic area is useful for a flask stop and the whole site feels geared towards a straightforward, low-key visit.
