Lowther Castle & Gardens is a grand outdoor day out near Keswick, set across 130 acres of formal gardens, castle ruins and woodland. Dogs are welcome throughout the grounds on leads, which means everyone can explore together without splitting up the group. There's a café on site, parking is available (with a daily charge) and it's the kind of place that easily fills a dog-friendly day in the Lakes.

Well-behaved dogs can join you across the gardens, castle grounds and outdoor paths, but they're not allowed on the Lost Castle adventure playground. That still leaves a straightforward indoor welcome for sniffing, wandering and taking in the ruins.

It's a strong choice when you want a big outdoor space that welcomes dogs without fuss. Lead-and-bag logistics are straightforward and because it's a ticketed attraction with facilities, you can plan the day confidently. Lowther works well for dog owners who want ruins, gardens and enough ground to cover without the usual can-we-go-in guesswork.
