Maiden Castle is one of the most dramatic historic sites near Dorchester, with enormous ramparts and wide open views that make an ordinary walk feel instantly more epic. English Heritage describes it as one of the largest and most complex Iron Age hillforts in Europe, with earthworks spread across the size of roughly 50 football pitches. Dogs are welcome on leads, though sheep graze the site, so it is very much a place for scenic wandering with some countryside manners attached. Brilliant for stretching legs, soaking up history, and letting the dog feel briefly in charge of an ancient fortress.
Good to know:

Dog Policy:
Dogs are welcome on leads. There is plenty of open space and history to soak up, but also grazing animals, so this one calls for sensible countryside manners.
