Mawddach Valley - Arthog Bog Nature Reserve

Arthog Bog Nature Reserve is a compact RSPB wildlife reserve in the Mawddach Valley, just outside Barmouth. Open 24 hours, the reserve offers accessible paths and boardwalks through wetland habitat rich in dragonflies, damselflies and wading birds. Dogs are allowed across the reserve grounds and tracks, making it an easy add-on to a Barmouth day out or a low-key nature fix when your dog needs a quieter alternative to the beach.

Dogs must be kept under close control throughout the reserve to protect ground-nesting birds and other wildlife. The bog's raised walkways and level terrain suit most lead-walking routines, though wet-pawed exits are guaranteed. Parking is available at Morfa Mawddach station, managed by Snowdonia National Park, with toilets nearby.

The reserve is small enough for a short visit but delivers proper wildlife-watching interest without the crowds. Assistance dogs are welcome in all parts of the reserve.
