That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Minster Inn sounds like a classic York pub escape just outside the thickest city-centre churn, offering a more traditional ale-house feel close to the city walls, Museum Gardens and the river. Independent details on its own site are sparse while the website is being updated, but other current listings describe it as an Edwardian pub with cask ales, cosy corners and a heated covered rear area. It feels like the sort of place people choose when they want a proper pub pause with a little breathing room, rather than a louder main-drag drinking stop.

Good to know:

Water bowls available

Treats available

Doggy Menu available

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome inside. A cosy pub dog works beautifully here, especially one who understands that real ale is not, in fact, a hydration station.
