Monks Haven is a dog-friendly café on Church Street in central Whitby, just a few minutes from the 199 Steps and the old town. Dogs are welcome inside, so you can settle in with your coffee or lunch while they snooze at your feet. The bay windows are perfect for watching the world go by and the team have been known to offer sausages to well-behaved canine visitors.

It's open most days, closing only on Wednesdays, with breakfast and lunch served until mid-afternoon. The menu covers everything from morning toast to a proper lunch and the central location makes it an easy stop before or after exploring the harbour and lanes.

The café has a cosy, traditional feel and the staff are friendly. There's no garden or outdoor seating, but the indoor welcome means you won't need to leave anyone tied up outside while you warm up with a brew.
