Mother Shipton's Cave is a heritage visitor attraction in Knaresborough, just outside Harrogate, built around England's oldest petrifying well and the legendary cave of the Tudor prophetess. Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the woodland park, including the main attraction areas, making it an atmospheric outing when you want history, folklore and fresh air without leaving anyone in the car. The petrifying well is the star turn – objects left in the mineral-rich water slowly turn to stone – and the wooded parkland winds around the cave, well and riverside paths.
Your dog can join you for the whole outdoor experience, though they'll need to sit this one out if you want to browse the Museum & Gift Shop or let younger visitors loose in the adventure playground. The attraction is open daily from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm, with last admission at 4 pm.
Dogs aren't permitted during the special Christmas event, except assistance dogs. Lead required throughout and keep an eye on seasonal programming if you're planning around school holidays.
