National Trust - Leigh Woods

Leigh Woods is one of those "how is this still so close to the city?" escapes, sitting just across the Avon Gorge from Bristol with woodland that quickly swallows up the noise of everything else. Paths wind through a mix of ancient trees, open clearings and quieter, tucked-away corners, with the occasional glimpse out across the gorge if you time it right.

It's a proper wander spot rather than a quick loop, with routes that can stretch out or stay simple depending on how far you want to go. Some paths are steady and level, others dip and climb, so it keeps things interesting for both dogs and humans. It has that slightly wild, unpolished feel in places, which makes it all the more satisfying when you find your rhythm and settle into it.

Set against the backdrop of the Clifton Suspension Bridge and rich in wildlife, it manages to feel both peaceful and quietly dramatic at the same time. The kind of place you go for a walk… and end up staying longer than planned.
