Newcastle Castle

Newcastle Castle in Bridgend is a compact medieval ruin where dogs on short leads are welcome on the ground floor levels and around the accessible areas of the site. It's a proper piece of heritage managed by Cadw, open daily from 10:00 to 16:00 between April and the end of March, with last admission half an hour before closing. The castle is closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

The ground floor areas and ruin site give you and your dog a short, worthwhile heritage stop without the usual no-dogs frustration. Upper levels aren't indicated for dog access, so plan for a ground-level explore rather than a tower climb. Free entry makes it an easy add-on if you're in the area with time to spare.

There's no dedicated parking on site; the nearest option is Embassy car park. Newcastle Castle sits in Bridgend, close enough to Porthcawl to make it a handy indoor-ish heritage break when coastal walks need a rest day.
