Nothe Fort

Nothe Fort is a Victorian coastal fort in Weymouth, built in the 1860s to defend Portland Harbour. Today it's a museum and heritage attraction where dogs are welcome throughout the ramparts, tunnels and indoor exhibition spaces. The fort opens daily from 10am to 4pm during the season, then closes for winter maintenance.

Dogs can join you on a short lead as you explore the gun emplacements, underground magazines and displays of military history. The lead-and-supervision rule keeps everyone safe in the narrow passageways and around steps and means your dog stays close while you navigate the maze of Victorian defences together. Council car parks are available in nearby Nothe Gardens.

The fort sits on Barrack Road at the tip of the headland, overlooking Weymouth Bay and the harbour entrance. It's a genuinely dog-friendly day out for history fans who'd rather not leave the dog at home.
