That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

The The Okeover Arms is a family-friendly country pub, restaurant and B&B just outside Ashbourne, wrapped in Derbyshire countryside and wide, open views. It runs from breakfast through to dinner, with a well-stocked bar and a handful of ensuite rooms if you decide one stop isn’t quite enough. The overall feel is relaxed, welcoming and exactly what you want after a long walk — somewhere you can properly settle in rather than perch.
Dogs are not just allowed here, they are genuinely part of the experience. The team clearly loves having them in, and it shows in the details — fresh water bowls, a dedicated doggy menu, natural chews and even free roast meat on Sundays for four-legged guests. There is dog ice cream for warmer days, plus beds, blankets and outdoor mats so they can flop down wherever suits them best. Towels are on hand after muddy river walks, which tells you everything about how this place really works in practice.
It is the kind of stop where dogs are welcomed straight in, fussed over without hesitation and treated like proper guests rather than an afterthought. A very easy choice after a countryside wander, especially if your dog enjoys a bit of well-earned VIP treatment alongside your pint or plate.
