ZOOM OUT TO EXPLORE

Indoor Welcome Last Verified:

14 Sept 2026

Old Sarum is an English Heritage historic site just outside Salisbury, set within dramatic Iron Age earthworks and the remains of a medieval royal castle. Dogs are welcome throughout the castle ruins and the outer bailey, making it an atmospheric outing for anyone whose route-planning starts with the dog's lead. Your dog can explore the castle ruins on a lead and enjoy off-lead freedom across the outer bailey as long as they're under control.

Water bowls are available outside the shop. On-site parking in the outer bailey includes 30 tarmac spaces and 30 grass overflow spaces, around 200 metres from the admission point, so wet paws and gear can be managed before the walk begins.

The site is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. Old Sarum combines wide open space, ancient stonework and sweeping views, all with your dog by your side—ideal for history lovers who refuse to leave the dog behind.
