Orford Castle is a 12th-century English Heritage site just inland from Aldeburgh, with a dramatic polygonal keep, audio tours and grounds where dogs on leads are welcome. English Heritage confirms that ordinary pet dogs can join the visit, so your dog can accompany you into the castle keep and around the site—though the 91 steep spiral steps and uneven stonework mean this is one for steady paws and confident climbers.
The castle is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:30. There's a small visitor car park 50 metres from the entrance with around 20 spaces and additional pay-and-display parking down at the quay if you need it.
Lead-only access keeps everyone safe on the narrow stairs and around the historic fabric. It's a proper Suffolk heritage day out with your dog, particularly useful if you're exploring the coast and want a break from the beach without leaving them behind.
