Peak Rail is all about easing the pace, with heritage train journeys that wind through the Derbyshire countryside and turn travel into part of the day out rather than just the way you get there, especially when dogs are along for the ride and quietly fascinated by everything. Vintage carriages, gentle scenery and that rhythmic, rolling feel give it a nostalgic charm, while the simple act of sitting still for a while feels like a reset for both humans and dogs.

Well behaved dogs can travel on all trains free of charge, as long as they stay off the seats. There are some restrictions on special events such as Santa and Dining Trains, although assistance dogs are welcome on all services throughout the year.

It pairs perfectly with a wander either side, creating one of those days that flows without needing much structure, with Rowsley South Tea Rooms right on hand for a post-journey stop. Open Wednesday to Sunday regardless of whether trains are running, it gives you a reliable place to refuel, warm up and settle in before heading off again.
