Peveril Castle is perched high above Castleton, with the sort of uphill approach that makes the ruins feel properly earned by the time you and your dog arrive. Founded soon after the Norman Conquest and associated with William Peverell, the castle rewards the climb with spectacular views over Hope Valley and a rugged, defensive atmosphere that still feels tangible among the stone.

Dogs are welcome on lead throughout the castle grounds, though the steep paths and open drops mean this is more adventurous terrain than a gentle stroll. The setting is dramatic, with enough history and landscape to make the effort worthwhile for both ends of the lead.

It's a rewarding day out for dogs who don't mind a climb and humans who appreciate atmospheric ruins with a view. Just plan for the uphill walk and keep a firm grip when the wind picks up or curious noses get too close to the edges.
