Portland Castle makes a brilliant dog-friendly day out for anyone who likes their history with sea views attached. Built by Henry VIII and set right on the water at Castletown, it has the kind of compact, atmospheric feel that makes exploring easy without losing the sense of stepping into something properly historic. Dogs on short leads are welcome in the grounds, the castle, the beach, the shop, and the lower section of the tea room, which is excellent news for households where sightseeing usually includes four legs and a lead. A strong pick for a scenic wander with a side order of Tudor fortification.
Good to know:
Water bowls available
Treats available
Doggy Menu available
Dog Policy:
Dogs on short leads are welcome around much of the site including the castle, the beach, the shop and the lower section of the tea room.. History with sea air is the brief here, so keep dogs close and the Tudor fort un-chewed.
