Richborough Roman Fort and Amphitheatre is a dog walk with a side order of ancient drama, giving you wide open grounds, big historic ruins and the satisfying feeling that your dog is inspecting the Roman Empire personally. This English Heritage site makes a great choice for owners who like their outings scenic, spacious and a little bit different, with room to wander and picnic among some of the earliest Roman remains in Britain. Dogs on leads are welcome in the outdoor areas, so it is a strong contender for history fans travelling with a sniff-first tour guide.
