Royston is one of Broadstairs’ true standout alehouses — the kind of place that feels like a find the moment you step through the door. With a strong awards record behind it, it pairs seriously good drinks with a look that’s anything but ordinary, weaving together Victorian, steampunk and art deco touches into something that feels distinctive without ever tipping into gimmick.

The drinks are the anchor. Expect carefully kept cask ales, proper real ciders and a thoughtfully chosen range that shows real care behind the bar. It’s stylish, yes, but never precious — more “stay for another” than “one and done”, with a warmth that keeps things grounded and welcoming.

Dogs are very much part of that welcome. Well-behaved pups are greeted like regulars, often with a treat landing before their human even gets served. There’s a water bowl outside and a few cosy dog beds inside for smaller companions to settle into, making it an easy, relaxed stop where nobody gets left out.

👉 One for character, quality pints, and a dog who somehow ends up better looked after than you.

Good to know:
