RSPB Leighton Moss is a major wetland nature reserve near Silverdale, set within the Morecambe Bay area and home to breeding bitterns, marsh harriers and a thriving otter population. The reserve welcomes dogs on leads in the visitor centre and on a designated dog-friendly trail across the reserve, though the main network of footpaths and hides remains off-limits to protect ground-nesting birds and sensitive wildlife areas. It's a proper day-out destination, complete with café, shop and extensive car parking.
The dog-friendly trail gives you and your lead-wearing companion a route through the reserve's reedbeds and woodland edges, offering a glimpse of the habitat without disturbing the core breeding zones. The visitor centre acts as the gateway, so you can pop in to orient yourselves before heading out. The reserve opens dawn to dusk, with the visitor centre, café, shop and toilets running from 9:30 am to 5 pm.
There are 90 spaces in the main car park, plus accessible parking beside the visitor centre. No overnight parking or camping is allowed and there's no parking at the top of the Causeway.

Dog Policy:
Dogs on leads are welcome in the visitor centre and on the designated dog-friendly trail across the reserve. Dogs are not allowed on the main reserve footpaths or near the hides to protect ground-nesting birds and sensitive wildlife.
