Rudyard Lake Steam Railway is a narrow-gauge heritage railway running a three-mile return journey along the shore of Rudyard Lake in the Staffordshire Moorlands, within easy reach of Buxton. Dogs are welcome on board the covered coaches for the scenic lakeside trip, which operates from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm every Saturday and Sunday between mid-March and early November, plus Bank Holidays and midweek during school holidays.
The railway runs from Rudyard Station, where there's a free car park and the ride offers a proper steam-train day out with your dog alongside you. Dogs aren't allowed inside the café or orangery at the wider Rudyard site, but they're welcome in the outdoor seating area on leads.
It's a straightforward, covered steam-train experience that works brilliantly when you want a lakeside outing without leaving your dog behind. The train itself is the main dog-friendly attraction, with the wider lakeside grounds offering more room for a wander before or after your ride.
