That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Tucked just off Silver Street, Rusty Shears is one of Whitby’s more elevated dining spots, where vintage charm meets seriously good food and a quietly indulgent drinks list. Inside, it’s all Victoriana, curios and character, while outside there’s a sheltered courtyard made for lingering longer than planned. The menu leans into quality, from beautifully done breakfasts and brunches to homemade cakes and a standout gin selection that edges things into “this was meant to be a quick stop” territory.

It’s the kind of place that feels a bit special without ever feeling stiff. The team are warm, attentive and clearly dog people themselves, which shows in how relaxed everything feels the moment you walk in.

Dog Policy:

Dogs are properly welcomed here, not just tolerated. Expect water bowls, treats, a doggy menu and a team who genuinely love dogs, so yours will be fussed over while you settle in. 🐾
