Sandford Park in Cheltenham is the kind of place where the walk gently unfolds without much effort. Tucked at the end of the High Street, this dog-friendly park blends two distinct feels: one side is more open and social, with space for picnics, games, and a large play area near the lido, while the other leans more ornamental, with carefully planted gardens, benches, and water features that slow everything down a notch.

Follow the paths through and you'll find cascade pools leading towards the River Chelt, where ducks often gather and occasionally attempt swimming lessons. There's a surprising amount tucked into the space, from Italian-style gardens and fountains to quieter corners that feel a world away from the town centre.

It's not a big, dramatic park. It's a layered one. The kind you pass through and then realise you've stayed longer than planned, with the dog wandering ahead and the paths winding just enough to keep things interesting.

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome throughout Sandford Park, where they'll likely take a strong interest in the ducks and water features. Just keep them under control, especially around wildlife, busier areas, and picnic spots.
