The Severn Valley Railway is a heritage steam railway running 16 miles through the Severn Valley between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth, and it's one of the more dog-inclusive days out on a railway you'll find. Dogs are welcome on standard services, travelling on the floor and on a lead, so the whole journey can be shared rather than sat out on a platform bench.

Dogs are charged at £5 per dog per day, with tickets available from the booking office on the day. They're not permitted in First Class accommodation, catering vehicles, or selected special-event trains — including Santa and Ghost Trains — so it's worth checking the timetable before you visit. At The Engine House visitor centre in Highley, dogs can join you on the ground floor, though the first floor and café are off-limits. On-site parking is available at Kidderminster, Bewdley and Bridgnorth stations for £4 per day.

With riverside walks, a country park and the option to hop on and off at intermediate stations, the SVR suits a dog who needs a proper stretch as much as a steam-powered ride.

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome on standard trains — on the floor, on a lead, and with a day ticket (£5 per dog). First Class, catering vehicles and selected special-event trains are off-limits, so a quick timetable check before you go keeps tails wagging in the right direction.
