Sherwood Forest Railway is a heritage narrow-gauge steam railway near Edwinstowe, just outside Nottingham, where well-behaved dogs on leads ride free on the trains. It's a brilliant day out for families who want to keep the whole group together, including the dog and enjoy a proper steam-hauled journey through woodland scenery.

The railway operates daily from 11 am to 4.30 pm, running from February half-term until the end of November. Your dog travels at your feet while you take in the nostalgia and the gentle rhythm of a vintage steam train and there's no awkward debate about leaving anyone behind in the car.

Dogs must be kept on leads throughout the ride, which keeps everyone safe and settled. It's the kind of outing that ticks the box for something different without the usual dog-free frustrations and the fact that dogs travel free makes it even easier to say yes.

Good to know:

Dog Policy:

Well-behaved dogs on leads ride free on the steam trains. They must remain on the lead throughout the journey.
