That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

The Shoulder of Mutton Inn is a village pub in Middleton Tyas, just off the A1 and about 4.4 miles from Richmond. Dogs are welcome inside the bar, so you can settle in together with a pint and a proper meal rather than leaving anyone outside. Food is served daily, with full pub hours from midday through to late evening.

The kitchen runs lunch and dinner service, with extended weekend hours on Saturday and a Sunday roast schedule that wraps by 8pm. It's the sort of pub that works for a planned stop or an impromptu break when the A1 has lost its charm.

The bar has a fire and the whole setup leans traditional village local rather than gastro gloss. Useful for a leg-stretch walk around Middleton Tyas, a meal that includes the dog, or simply a halfway point that doesn't involve a service station and a car park picnic.
