Skipton Castle is a brilliantly preserved medieval fortress in the Yorkshire Dales, about a 15-minute drive from Grassington. Dogs are welcome on short leads throughout the castle interior and grounds, so you can explore the self-guided route together without anyone getting left outside. It's a proper historic day out with your dog, not just a quick courtyard photo stop.

The castle offers ramparts, towers, banqueting halls and the Conduit Court to wander through and there's woodland to stretch legs afterwards. Dogs aren't allowed in the shop or tearoom, so plan accordingly if you're making a longer visit. Opening hours are daily from 10 am to 5 pm and online booking is recommended to guarantee your visit.

Bailey Car Park is available with your castle ticket and can be booked online or paid on arrival. It's rare to find a heritage attraction this dog-inclusive and the lead-on policy keeps things calm for everyone sharing the stone spiral staircases.
