Strata Florida Abbey

Strata Florida Abbey is a spectacular medieval Cistercian ruin set in the hills of inland Ceredigion, about 14 miles from Aberystwyth. Managed by Cadw, the site includes the atmospheric remains of the 12th-century abbey church, graceful arches and the famous Neath tile pavement, alongside a visitor centre that helps bring the history to life. Dogs on short leads are welcome to explore the ground-floor levels of the site and the abbey grounds with you, making this a proper heritage day out rather than just a walk.

The terrain is authentically ancient, so expect uneven ground, low walls and the odd step as you wander the ruins. The free visitor car park sits directly across from the monument, with a handy drop-off space right outside if you've got a stiff dog or a lot of kit.

Strata Florida opens daily from 10:00 to 16:00, with last admission half an hour before closing. Do keep your dog on a short lead throughout and make sure they don't nibble the vegetation—this place has survived nearly 900 years and deserves a little respect from modern paws.
