Set just above Viking Bay, The Tartar Frigate is one of those pubs that feels like it’s been waiting for you to wander in after a windy beach loop. Housed in a historic 18th-century flint building, it’s full of character, with warm interiors downstairs and a restaurant upstairs that leans into those big sea views.
Food here is all about classic seaside comfort done properly — fresh seafood, traditional British dishes, and a Sunday roast that people make a point of returning for. The bar has a more relaxed feel, often with live music humming in the background, making it an easy stop whether you’re settling in for a full meal or just a drink with salt still in your hair from the beach.
It’s the kind of place where a quick stop turns into “shall we just stay a bit longer?” — especially when the light starts dropping over the bay and everything slows down just enough.
Good to know:
Water bowls available
Treats available
Doggy Menu available
Dog Policy:
Dogs are welcome in the bar area, where water and treats are available if you ask at the bar. Food is served in the bar Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 6pm, but dogs are not allowed in the restaurant area except for service dogs, and Sundays are restaurant-only for food.

Seen this? It marks our Recommended Partners - places that go that bit further, so dogs feel properly welcome (and you can actually relax)
