That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

A slightly under-the-radar pub just off Castle Street that leans into comfort food done properly. The Architect is all about classic British favourites — think fish and chips, pie and mash — but with a build-your-own twist if you want to mix things up or just stick with the tried-and-tested combinations.
Inside, it’s got that relaxed local feel with a modern edge — open, easy to settle into, with a small courtyard out back for when the weather behaves. The drinks list holds its own too, with real ales, craft beers, and a surprisingly strong gin lineup alongside the food.
It’s the kind of place that works when you’re properly hungry and want something satisfying rather than fussy. And importantly, dogs are very much part of the setup, so you can head in together, grab a table, and settle in without any of the usual logistical juggling.
Good to know:
Water bowls available
Treats available
Dog menu available
Dog Policy:
Dogs are properly welcomed here and quickly realise this is their kind of place. There are free treats on hand, plus a full dog menu with treat pots, doggy beer, ice cream and puppachinos, so they’re very much part of the experience. Add in a Polaroid on the doggy wall of fame and you’ve got a visit they’ll want to repeat 🐾
