The Blue Whale Cafe sits inside the Salcombe branch of Ashby's, a few miles outside town on the Malborough side. It's a proper sit-down cafe with hot food served until 2:30pm every day and drinks and cake available until 3:30pm. Dogs are welcome inside the cafe and on the patio, so you and your dog can settle in together while you eat.

The cafe is part of a larger store that includes a food hall and butchery, but those areas remain dog-free. Your dog stays with you in the cafe space and the outdoor seating, which keeps things simple when you're planning a stop on the way to or from Salcombe.

It's open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. The cafe offers a practical break with food, a browse-friendly retail setting next door and no need to leave anyone in the car.
