That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

The Cherry Tree is one of Canterbury's most no-frills, characterful pubs, tucked just off the main streets and doing its own thing without apology. With roots going all the way back to 1372, it's one of the city's oldest pubs, and it still carries that slightly rough-edged, proper old boozer energy rather than anything polished or modern. Dogs are welcome inside, so they can join you while you settle in.

Inside, it's small, lively and a bit chaotic in the best way, a mix of locals, students and anyone who's wandered in and decided to stay. There's a jukebox, regular DJs and live music, and drinks that lean affordable rather than fancy, making it the kind of place where nights tend to unfold rather than be planned. Dogs are welcome during the day, so paws and people can stay together for a relaxed pint.

It's not trying to be refined, it's about atmosphere, personality and a slightly rebellious charm that's been part of its identity for years. If you like pubs with stories, quirks and a bit of unpredictability, this is very much that, and your dog can be part of it too.

Good to know:

Water bowls available

Treats available

Doggy Menu available

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome inside during the day, so nobody needs to do the pavement shuffle. Keep them on a lead and out of walkways, especially when the jukebox crowd starts to gather.
