Crab Museum is what happens when science, humour, and a slightly unhinged curiosity about the world all get rolled into one small but brilliantly odd space. Tucked above a gallery in Margate Old Town, it’s not your typical “look at this thing in a glass box” museum — it’s more of a deep dive into crabs as a gateway to… everything.

Expect exhibits that bounce between biology, climate change, philosophy, and the occasional joke about woodlice, all delivered with a tone that feels more like a clever friend explaining something in a pub than a formal institution. It’s interactive, a bit absurd in places, and intentionally “satisfyingly baffling,” which is exactly the point.

You’ll learn things you didn’t know you needed to know (crabs might have already saved your life, apparently), question things you weren’t planning to question, and leave either more informed or just slightly more confused — in a good way.

It’s free to enter, powered by donations and enthusiasm, and proudly leans into being a bit different. Basically: if you like your days out with a side of “what did I just experience?”, this is your place.

Good to know:

Water bowls available

Treats available

Doggy Menu available

Dog Policy:

Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Expect a curious environment full of strange objects, unexpected facts, and at least one human trying to explain crabs with intense enthusiasm. Ideal for dogs who are happy to wander, observe, and quietly judge the entire concept of a crab museum.
