Indoor Welcome Last Verified:

The Devenish is a Wiltshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve three miles north of Salisbury in the Woodford valley, offering woodland, chalk downland and meadow habitats with views over the surrounding countryside. Dogs on leads are welcome across the reserve and there's a small car park on the approach road. The terrain is steep with steps in places, so expect a proper workout on the climb to the top.

Grazing animals are present on the reserve, which is why leads are required throughout. The reserve is open at all times and free to visit.

It's close enough to Old Sarum and central Salisbury for a longer day out, with the sort of varied landscape that keeps scent-obsessed noses busy. The combination of accessible parking, managed trails and genuine wildlife interest makes it a practical choice when you want something more purposeful than a standard walk.

Good to know:

Water bowls available

Free treats available

Dog Policy:

Dogs on leads are welcome across the reserve, including woodland, chalk downland and meadow areas. Leads are required due to grazing animals and steep terrain with steps.
