That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

A proper Cambridge classic sitting right on the river — the kind of pub that feels like it's been waiting for muddy paws and slow afternoons for a few hundred years. The Fort St George is tucked beside Midsummer Common, all timber beams, low ceilings, and that cosy, slightly chaotic charm that comes with a building that's seen it all. Dogs are welcome inside, so everyone can settle in together.

Outside is where it really shines — benches spilling towards the Cam, rowers drifting past, and that golden-hour moment where no one is in a rush to leave. Inside, it's all about proper pub comfort: pints, hearty food, and a settle-in-and-stay-a-while kind of atmosphere. Water bowls and treats are on hand for four-legged guests.

Perfect for post-walk resets that turn into dinner without much discussion. Dogs slot in easily here, especially after a loop across the common — plenty of space to flop after a solid sniff session. Riverside, historic, and dangerously easy to linger in.

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome inside on lead, so nobody needs to do the pavement shuffle. Keep paws close near doors and busy areas.
