That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

The Green Dragon is a historic village pub in the heart of Chesterton, Cambridge, sitting right on the edge of the Cam with some of the best riverside views in the city. Dogs are welcome inside, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle while you settle in with a pint. The setting does the heavy lifting — a picturesque garden leading down to the water and rowers passing by from morning through to golden hour.
Inside, it's full of character — exposed beams, cosy corners, and that slightly wonky charm that only comes with age. Expect a strong line-up of cask ales, wines, and fresh, home-cooked food that turns a quick stop into a proper sit-down.
It's a front-row seat to Cambridge's rowing scene too, especially during the May Bumps and Town Bumps when the river comes alive. Perfect for post-walk lingering, with dogs settling in easily while you watch it all unfold.
Good to know:
Water bowls available
Treats available
Doggy Menu available
Dog Policy:
Dogs are welcome inside on lead, so paws and people can stay together by the table while the rowers glide past.
