The Judge’s Lodging has the sort of grand York presence that makes it feel like more than just a pub or hotel. Set in an elegant Georgian townhouse near the Minster, it combines boutique bedrooms with food, drinks and a polished but approachable atmosphere. There is a sense of occasion to the place, but not in a stiff way. It works well for anything from a relaxed meal to a city-break stay, especially if you like your York base with handsome architecture, a little theatre and a lot of historic character.
