The Magdalen Arms is a well-loved Oxford pub with a food reputation that makes it feel a little more special than an ordinary stop-off. Dogs are welcome inside, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle while someone else enjoys the meal.

Alongside well-kept ales and lagers, the pub serves good coffee, huge doorstep sandwiches, weekday focaccia and a daily à la carte menu, with a set lunch and supper hour adding to its appeal.

For dog owners, it works beautifully when the walk deserves more than a token snack and the human would quite like the meal to be part of the treat. It is thoughtful, grounded and full of substance.

Dog Policy:

Well-behaved dogs are welcome inside. If your dog is booked in the dining room, they'll need to sit under the table—a small price for nobody missing out on the good stuff.
