The Magdalens

The Magdalens is a handy Ripon pub stop for dog owners who want somewhere traditional, relaxed and easy to drop into after a town wander. Dogs are welcome inside, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle. Its Facebook presence leans into proper pub simplicity, which gives it that dependable "sit down, exhale, and let the dog settle" energy.

It works well when the day has involved pavements, pottering and at least one unnecessary extra loop because somebody had sniff-based opinions. Think classic pub comfort, a friendly local feel and one dog flopping down like the route planning has been exhausting. Open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5pm, Friday from 4pm, and weekend afternoons from 2pm (closed Tuesdays).

For visitors with dogs, it feels like the sort of place that keeps things nicely unfussy while still giving everyone a proper pause. There's on-site parking, and motorhome stopovers are welcomed in the car park.
