The Moorings

The Moorings sits right along the banks of the River Dee in Chester, in one of those "you came for a walk, you stayed for food, and now nobody wants to leave" spots. Set on The Groves, it has the river drifting past, boats bobbing along, and the sort of view that makes a quick coffee feel suspiciously like an event. Dogs are welcome inside and out, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle.

Inside, it's bright and easy-going, while outside is where things really shine: riverside seating, fresh air, sunshine if Chester is feeling generous, and that slow watch-the-world-go-by feeling that turns a simple stop into a proper pause. Food-wise, it's a full all-day café setup, with breakfasts, brunches, sandwiches, cakes, and the sort of little extras that feel completely justified after a long riverside wander. There's history tucked into the place too, with roots going back to the 19th century, when it was connected to local boat builders before becoming the café people know today.

Dogs are very much part of the picture here. Fresh water bowls are available outside and can be refreshed on request, and there are always dog treats waiting on the bar. Dogs can have their very own sausage, served in their own bowl, which frankly sounds like the sort of treatment they will remember forever. The team clearly love their doggy visitors too, often getting to know the dogs even better than the humans attached to them.
