That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

The Nag's Head in Shrewsbury is a traditional pub with plenty of character, good ale energy and the sort of old-pub feel that makes stopping for a drink seem like the obvious thing to do. Dogs are welcome inside, which means nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle while the rest of the group settles in. It leans into classic pub comforts rather than trying to reinvent the wheel, which is often exactly what is wanted after a wander through town.
There is something reassuring about a pub that knows its identity, especially when the brief is simple: sit down, have a decent drink and let the dog settle in like they have been a regular for years. It works well as a slower, more atmospheric stop where the building does part of the talking.
A strong shout for traditional pub charm with very little fuss and plenty of personality, all while keeping paws and people together.
Good to know:
Water bowls available
Treats available
Doggy Menu available
Dog Policy:
Dogs are welcome inside, which suits this old-pub setting very nicely. Expect ale, character and a dog making themselves comfortable as if they have been coming here longer than you have.
