The Penny Theatre is one of Canterbury's liveliest pubs, sitting right on Northgate with a big, sociable energy that shifts throughout the day. Originally a theatre space dating back to the 18th century, it still carries that sense of history, now reworked into a modern pub that blends food, drinks, sport and entertainment all under one roof. By day, it's a relaxed spot for food and drinks, with a menu of crowd-pleasers like burgers, loaded dishes and easy bar food. By evening, it leans fully into atmosphere, with live music, quizzes, karaoke and big-screen sports turning it into more of an "anything could happen" kind of night. There's always something going on, whether it's a match day crowd, a themed event or just a busy night with friends.
