The Plough Inn in Alnwick is an 18th-century former coaching house and blacksmith's shop, now a countryside pub with warm village-hub energy. Dogs are welcome inside, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle while the rest of the group settles in for a drink.

It's a lovely stop for post-walk comfort or a break during a Northumberland drive, when you want a proper pause and a place that feels welcoming. Muddy paws are generally treated as a normal side effect of a good day out.
