The Railway

Tucked just outside the main town centre buzz, The Railway in Cheltenham is one of those pubs that quietly builds a loyal following, and dogs are welcome inside. It's independent, full of personality, and leans more "proper local with a twist" than polished chain, with low lighting, chatter, and that slightly snug, lived-in feel that makes you want to stay longer than planned.

There's a strong focus on great drinks—local beers, ciders and small-batch spirits—alongside a wine list that's a bit more interesting than your average pub offering. Then there's the food, which takes a sharp turn away from standard pub fare: bold, smoky Thai street food coming off the grill, full of flavour and very much the kind of thing you end up talking about afterwards. There's also a beer garden for sunnier days and fires for colder ones, so it works year-round.

It's relaxed, a little atmospheric, and just the right amount of "this feels like our place now"—with paws welcome under the table while you work through the menu.
